Screenwriter wants to make Portal 3 before it gets ‘too old’

By now, many fans have given up hope of ever seeing any Valve game numbered “3”, but writer Erik Wolpaw thinks it’s high time they did. Portal 3 happen.

In an interview for the podcast Kiwi TalkzWolpaw, who was one of those responsible for the script for the two games in the franchise, in addition to titles such as Left 4 Dead and Half-Life Alyx, revealed his willingness to start working on the sequel: “We have to start Portal 3. This is my message to… to anyone.”

“I’m not getting any younger,” commented the screenwriter. “We’re getting to a point where it’s crazy to imagine that we’re literally too old to work on Portal 3then we should just do it,” he concluded.

However, will is not the only factor needed to make the development of a new game happen. “The problem is Valve has 300 employees and I don’t know exactly what the division is like — how many of them are in production or the Steam business or the legal side or whatever,” Wolpaw explained.

“So there’s a lot to consider when taking 75 people out to try and make a game,” he continued. “They’re working all the time, you just don’t always see the result, it’s not always revealed, or it’s revealed years later, it’s turned into something different.”

Fortunately, the series has not been entirely forgotten. Recently, the two games in the franchise were announced with a trailer for Nintendo Switch, in a collection entitled Portal: Companion Collection.
