Whether you’re one of those who skipped the campaign to jump right into multiplayer, or those who completed the story missions on launch day to gasp at all the breathtaking scenery, most of you have played Call of Duty. You may recall that an open world campaign was planned for Black Ops 3, but canceled in favor of more traditional linear missions for the series. Then, photos of a stripped-down CoD campaign leaked to the network.

As reported by Insider Gaming, on the Imgur site images appeared open-world campaign under development at the time. The first image shows a project to connect the central world of Singapore to other parts, with the bio house to the north and the black station to the south.

There is a second section on the map called Chinatown, and it has a key that shows the various penetration points and places where you can obtain unobtanium. I’m not sure if “Avatar” owns the trademark for this term, but it’s only early development, so it may not be the final name for the resource.

Some images then show screenshots of a partially built map of Chinatown with the player running through it, followed by some aerial shots of environments that have yet to be fully completed, as well as real inspiration images for each segment of the terrain.

The Imgur post, posted about four hours ago at the time of writing, contains over 60 images. Other maps include Downtown, which shows a highway under construction, Hilltop, a more wooded area, and Black Station, hinted at from the Singapore hub shown at the top of the post.

There are also several images of robots and drones, as well as clues that the unobtanium needs to be reset. In 2019, Jason Schreier revealed that the Black Ops 3 campaign was halted during a development reshuffle, which has reportedly led to a long period of downturn for many Treyarch employees.
