On Tuesday, the Minister of Education will make a series of announcements on schools. Gabriel Attal is particularly concerned about the place of screens among the youngest and wants a “collective start” to avoid a “health disaster”. Sweden, for example, has decided to put an end to all-digital education in schools.
Gabriel Attal will make a series of announcements Tuesday about the school. The Minister of Education calls in particular for a “collective start” to avoid a “health disaster linked to the place of screens”. The Swedish government has already decided to put an end to all-digital education in schools, after noting a drop in reading levels. Several European countries, although at the forefront in the implementation of digital technology in schools, are also going backwards and launching a crusade against screens in classes.
A risk of confinement
To remedy this, the Swedish government is imposing a return to the good old paper textbooks. More than 100 million euros have been released over 3 years to buy books. Sweden is not the only European country to question the value of digital tools in classrooms. In June, Denmark announced a ban on screen use for children under the age of six in preschools. And the Netherlands will ban cell phones and tablets in most schools from next year.
