Thursday, January 7, 2021, the mayors of the 2e and 6e district of Lyon (Rhône), Peter Oliver and Pascal Blache as well as’Etienne Blanc did not mince their words. In their joint statement, he judges the mayor of Lyon Gregory Doucet “Irresponsible” and inactive in the face of the health crisis.
Contacted by Lyon news, Pierre Oliver explains.
Lyon and Villeurbanne had stayed away from the testing campaign
At the end of December, Laurent Wauquiez launched with great fanfare the “All screened before Christmas” campaign in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
While many municipalities have become involved by making rooms available, the cities of Lyon and Villeurbanne have chosen not to open any, considering that the centers of Gerland and Gratte-ciel were sufficient.
Mostly Gregory Doucet and Cédric Van Styvendeal were not convinced of the value of such a campaign before the holidays and preferred to focus on the after.
To support their screw, the two elected officials had questioned the opinion of the scientific council. Which had been in their direction, considering that it was logical to consider “a broad screening strategy in early January targeted at certain populations and certain territories”.
Radio silence since the holidays
Convinced that a second screening campaign would be organized by the City of Lyon at the beginning of January, Pierre Oliver and Pascal Blache had therefore prepared: “We had already found volunteers but we are still waiting for material”.
The mayor of 2e Borough Pierre Oliver was motivated because he is convinced that “the more we test, the more we can isolate and prevent the spread of the virus”.
Yes, but now, motivation has fallen in the face of the “inaction” of the mayors of Lyon and Villeurbanne. All this was only an “announcement effect”, according to the elected LR.
A failure that the three elected strongly criticize:
When it comes to public health, not keeping promises is not only irresponsible, it is gross negligence that says a lot about the way he exercises responsibilities.
Contacted, the city of Lyon has so far not reacted to the press release.
