It is a fait accompli, this Thursday the Screen Actors Guild of the United States has officially declared a strike. The negotiations that they held with the Hollywood studios for the signing of a new collective agreement did not bear fruit. The negotiations failed and the result is an imminent strike. It is important to point out that with this strike the actors thus join the Writers Union (WGA) who have been unemployed since May, which in short can be described as a simultaneous strike, something that had never been seen before.
It is understood then that the Hollywood industry is going through its worst moment since this can paralyze an endless number of projects, if not all of them.
The EFE news agency shared the statements made by the actress Fran Drescher, president of the SAG: “Proceeding to a strike is something very serious that can affect thousands, if not millions of people, throughout the country and throughout the world.” (…) It was with great sadness that we arrived at this crossroads, but we had no other choice”.
