The “jewel” of Greek sports, the OAKA, is rotting and, as if that were not enough, the relations of its managers are out of bounds, which raises questions about the effective treatment of the serious problems of the facilities. The general manager of OAKA Kostas Halioris is being complained by the president of the stadium Georgia Phyrigou-Consolo for “unacceptable behavior” and she even warned him by email that if he does not change his ways, she will recommend disciplinary measures against him to the Board of Directors!
Unbelievable and yet true. The president of the country’s largest sports complex is threatening her (theoretically) right-hand man with sanctions, apparently because the situation has gotten out of hand and she has to clean it up due to her position. Mr. Halioris probably feels powerful in his position (he has been appointed since the time of Lefteris Avgenakis) and that is why – as stated in the president’s email – he emphasizes to his colleagues that “I will inform up”. With Ms. Phyrigou wondering if the “upstairs” are in the Ministry of Sports or the Maximos Palace!
At OAKA, relations between Phyrigos and its general manager have been strained for a long time. In an email sent to him by the president entitled “Unacceptable behavior” it is stated: “Once again you amaze me with your inelegant and offensive behavior. You came into my office screaming at Mr. Karasoulis, regarding the signing of the Contract of the Used Sports Equipment that concerns the water shoes for the EAK Chania, yelling that it should have been signed by Friday 2/23/2024”.
Then the president of the OAKA Board of Directors informs Halioris that she herself waited on 2/23 in her office until 5:30 p.m., without the contract being sent to her for signature. And he adds: “A while ago, you had explicitly requested that if you do not approve the contracts with your signature, I should not sign. Something similar had happened with the Loan for the offices of Rally Acropolis in our premises and because I asked NY what we are doing about it, you heard us in the hallway and got upset and yelled, and… again we tolerated your yelling. In any case, this behavior does not create conditions for good cooperation and will not be tolerated from now on.
Her (contract) transfer finally came on Saturday 2/24/2024 in the morning along with your email at 6:54 and her digital signature on the document is at 6:51:36 on Saturday morning!!! If you wanted me to sign it on Saturday, you could with a simple phone call tell me to come, as due to the fact that there were also diving competitions in the indoor swimming pool, I attended to watch them.”
Then Mrs. Firigou repeats that she will not “tolerate your unacceptable behavior any longer” and “threats in the corridors, ‘shut up because you only know how to talk from behind and I will inform upstairs’.” Where will you inform, Mr. General? In the Minister’s office? In the office of the Director of the Minister or Maximos?
To whom do you think you have the right to speak like this and who gives you the right to behave and behave in this way not only to the President, but also to the staff of the Organization who every day try their best to meet needs?”.
In the epilogue of the email the president, which is a choice of if. of Sports Minister Giorgos Vroutsis, warns Halioris that “this is the last time this happens. Next time I will propose disciplinary measures to the Board of Directors”.
