Scout Winterthur vs HSC Suhr Aarau: Epic Handball Showdown Ends in Thrilling Overtime Victory

Tonight’s handball evening and thus game 5 between Scout Winterthur and HSC Suhr Aarau really offers handball fans everything: intense duels, incredible goalkeeper parades, emotions, tension, drama and twice overtime. But everything at the beginning:

The game starts with a false start from Scout. The visiting team clearly dominates and quickly brings the score to 3-0. The Winterthur team had to wait eight minutes for their first goal, which was finally scored by top scorer Noam Leopold. The HSC goalkeeper duo prevented further goals with confident actions, including two 7-meter saves in the first ten minutes. The home team acts too nervously in attack, cannot find solutions and repeatedly fails because of the Aarau defense. Suhr, on the other hand, presents itself at its best and pulls away to 10:5 after two goals from goalkeeper Jannis Scheidiger into the empty Scout goal. Scout still can’t take advantage of his chances and can’t find a way past the opposing goalkeeper. At halftime they are behind 9:13.

After the break, the duel between the goalkeepers continues. Admir Ahmetasevic is also in top form. The two keepers only allowed ten goals in 20 minutes. Scheidiger shines with a total of 20 (!) saves and 42 percent, Ahmetasevic records 15 saves (33 percent). In the 52nd minute of the game, Kevin Jud scored the equalizer, shortly afterwards Alessio Lioi even took the lead to 20:19, but they couldn’t hold on. Five seconds before the end of regular time, it was Lioi again who saved Scout from the end of the season with his equalizer. There will be an extension (2×5′).

The atmosphere in the Axa Arena is outstanding! Almost 2,000 fans, including a large block of fans from the guests who arrived, will not be disappointed that evening. Overtime makes some pulses beat even faster. Suhr was able to take the lead again, but Kevin Jud equalized again with his sixth goal 21 seconds before the end (28:28). Suhr has one last chance to win the game by one goal, but is denied at the last second by goalkeeper Ahmetasevic, who sends himself and his team into the second extra time with a decisive save.

In the second extra time, Scout got off to a much better start and quickly pulled away by three goals. Suhr gets within a goal again, but it is no longer enough for another equalizer and thus a penalty shootout. Scout Winterthur wins this handball highlight with 34:33 and is now in the playoff quarter-finals. For HSC Suhr Aarau the championship ends this evening.
