– Scout has to be content with one point in the derby
Scout Winterthur and GC Amicitia Zurich split 25:25. Despite many mistakes in the first half, Scout could have won the game.

Scout had to improvise and Scout improvised. It was unusual to say the least. Alessio Lioi, a center back player, played on the right wing. Coach Goran Cvetkovic sent three pivots onto the field for several minutes. Or there was Dennis Wipf between the posts after Admir Ahmetasevic showed a very good performance at times last Wednesday. Coach Goran Cvetkovic was forced to make offensive changes. He was missing Scout more than an entire back row, injured or otherwise.
Everything had an impact, at least in the short term – mostly positive for Scout. GC was surprised by the three circle runners and needed several attacks to adjust. GC had trouble with Lioi, who moved towards the middle in a wide arc and then used his one-on-one strength. And GC often failed because of Dennis Wipf.
Check with a signaling effect
However, as on Wednesday, the deciding factor was a time penalty against Scout and a clear increase in goal. Viran Morros picked up the time penalty. He checked Adrian Blättler as he rushed to the bench. The check was actually squeaky clean, the arm was on, it was shoulder to shoulder and the feet were also on the floor. What is within the rules in ice hockey is not appropriate in handball. But it was a foul with a signal effect – in a double sense. On the one hand, to the goalscorer Blättler, who celebrated somewhat exuberantly. The signal went to him: “Not like that, boy.” On the other hand, the message was also sent to Scout. And this was: “Now a little more tough, they’re dancing on our noses.”
That was in the 25th minute. GC was leading 13:9 at this point. Scout wasn’t really in the game. At the back they lost too many one-on-ones in the opening phase – in the offensive 3-2-1 formation this is pretty devastating. “We didn’t do well, but the many technical errors they made saved us,” admits Cvetkovic. But his team also made similar mistakes. In the first ten minutes alone, the Winterthur team made six simple mistakes – that’s the same number as in the entire game against Kreuzlingen.
By the break, Scout had reduced the score to 13:15. “We agreed in the dressing room that we had to improve the one-on-one behavior in the backcourt positions,” said Cvetkovic. That worked well and if it didn’t, then Dennis Wipf was there. The goalie parried four free throws in a row. In the end he made 16 saves and a save rate of 40 percent. The Winterthurians still had a hard time on the offensive, but once again failed because of Viacheslau Saldatsenka and themselves. Nevertheless, the Winterthurians managed a 3-0 run and took the lead for the first time. Scouts later pulled ahead by two goals, and this lead lasted until the final minute.
Scout would have had the chance to make it 26:24 with just under 60 seconds left. But the game ended as it began: with too many mistakes. As unusual as Scout’s setups were, the sources of error were equally unusual. Kevin Jud, actually the ultimate baller, made a technical error in the final minute and GC equalized. “After a game like that, you say we could or should have won two points,” said Cvetkovic. Before the game, however, GC was the clear favorite, so he was quite happy with the one point. This was also performance-oriented. It was the expected competitive game between the two teams – at least that wasn’t unusual.
