Scottish Prime Minister Misled Commission of Inquiry Abuse Affair | Abroad

The committee considered how the government has dealt with complaints about Salmond. After stepping down in 2014, he was charged with sexual misconduct. Several women said Salmond had tried to rape or assault them. The former prime minister was acquitted in a criminal case last year.

Sturgeon made a statement to the committee in early March, which is now said to have concluded that she has misled parliament. The prime minister was previously accused, among other things, of misinforming parliament about the affair. She was also criticized about the way an internal investigation into Salmond had gone.

The position of the prime minister is under pressure due to the abuse affair. A number of parliamentarians called on Sturgeon to resign from her position at the beginning of this month.

Sturgeon shortly after reporting that she misled the parliamentary committee. “The prime minister has told the committee the truth in eight hours of evidence, and she supports that evidence,” her spokesman said.
