Parties that support Scottish independence have won a majority in the Scottish parliamentary elections, strengthening their position in calling for a second referendum on leaving the United Kingdom, Reuters reported.
The results so far show that the Scottish National Party (SNP) and the Scottish Greens have won 65 of the 87 seats announced in the 129-seat parliament.
Scottish Prime Minister Nicholas Sturgeon, who is also the leader of the SNP, warned British Prime Minister Boris Johnson not to try to block a second referendum on Scottish independence, AFP reported.
“There is no democratic justification for Boris Johnson or anyone else to try to obstruct the Scottish people’s right to choose their own future,” Sturgeon said.
