Shortly before the match, Serbia already had to deal with a heavy blow, because the crowbar had to miss Luka Milivojevic with corona. The ex-midfielder of Anderlecht immediately went home in isolation.
Things got worse for Serbia, when Christie opened the score with a low shot shortly after half-time. Only in the 91st minute, Real attacker Jovic was able to force extensions with a header. That resulted in penalties. The diligent Scots made no mistake about this. Aleksandar Mitrovic, however once a specialist, missed the 5th and decisive for Serbia. For Scotland it will be the 1st participation in a major tournament since the 1998 World Cup in France. Two years earlier, the Scots were also there at the European Championship in England. They will end up in group D next summer with England, Croatia and the Czech Republic.
The match in Belgrade between Serbia and Scotland was the final of group C. They eliminated Norway (1-2, nv) and Israel (0-0, 5-3 pen.) Respectively.
