NEW YORK – A scooter rider was injured when they tried to stop a stolen car Monday night in Midtown Manhattan, police said.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Ninth Avenue near 39th Street. According to police, officers attempted to stop a Range Rover that had been reported stolen, but the SUV fled. During his escape, he collided with an unoccupied car and then hit a scooter.
The driver of the scooter was taken to the hospital with a leg injury as a result of the impact.
Police said a 21-year-old man was detained in connection with the incident, but a woman who was a passenger in the Range Rover managed to escape the scene.
