A scooter rider was killed on Saturday evening by a collision with a train on a level crossing in Maastricht. A second person, who was also on the scooter, was injured. That happened when the scooter driver crossed a level crossing while a train was approaching, the police announced.
The accident happened around 8.25 pm on the level crossing at the Alfons Ariënsstraat in Maastricht. The Arriva train was on its way to Eijsden with Liège as its final destination.
The injured victim was taken to hospital.
The identity of the fatal victim is not yet known. The police are trying to find out who drove the scooter and what exactly happened.
As a result of the accident, no trains will run between Maastricht and Liège-Guillemins on Saturday evening, the NS announced. The blockage will last at least until midnight.
