Scooter driver hits bridge railing on Molukkenstraat after pursuit

A scooter rider hit a bridge railing after a short pursuit by the police on the Veebrug in East. The driver was injured and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

According to a police spokesperson, the man drove away ‘at high speed’ after officers wanted to address him on Javaplein. The police then gave chase. It therefore ended on the Veebrug, between the Veelaan and the Molukkenstraat.

The spokesperson says that the man suffered injuries to his mouth. He was approachable when he was checked into the ambulance. The scooter rider was later taken to hospital.

The bridge is currently closed off for an investigation, which is being carried out by the traffic accident analysis (VOA) among others. As a result, buses 22 and 65 have to detour for the time being, the GVB reports.
