A Scoot flight originally scheduled to fly to Perth, Australia, returned to Changi Airport under fighter escort due to a bomb threat an hour after takeoff.
“Lianhe Zaobao” reported earlier that a Scoot flight originally scheduled to fly to Perth, Australia, after taking off,Suspected emergency occurred on board the aircraftlanded at Changi Airport at 6:27 pm on Thursday (October 12).
The affected Scoot flight TR16 was originally scheduled to take off at 3:30 pm on Thursday and was expected to arrive in Perth, Australia at 8:35 pm.
In response to Lianhe Zaobao’s inquiry, a Scoot spokesperson said that TR16 took off at 4:11 pm on Thursday with 363 passengers, nine cabin crew and two pilots on board. An hour later, he received a bomb threat and decided to return to Singapore. “The Air Force also dispatched fighter jets to escort the flight back to Changi Airport, and emergency services were also activated.”
The spokesman said that the flight landed in Singapore smoothly at 6:27 pm and the company is assisting the authorities in the investigation. “Scot apologizes for the inconvenience caused. The safety of our passengers and cabin crew is our top priority and we will continue to provide assistance to our passengers.”
Defense Minister Dr. Ng Eng Hen also posted on Facebook at 8:35 pm that two Singaporean Air Force F-15SGs were dispatched in the evening to escort Scoot flight TR16, which received a bomb threat, to land safely at Changi Airport.
“Thank you to our RSAF troops who are on standby around the clock to keep Singapore safe,” Ng wrote.
