SCO Angers Wins 3-2 Against Quevilly-Rouen to Become Ligue 2 Leader

The SCO of Angers won this Tuesday evening against Quevilly-Rouen (3-2). And becomes a leader.

SCO Angers, winner at the last minute at home to Quevilly-Rouen 3-2, took the lead in the Ligue 2 championship ahead of former leader Auxerre clinging to Grenoble 1-1 in the clash of the 21st day, played on Tuesday.

The SCO, joined in the score shortly after the hour mark by the Quevillais, snatched the three points of victory in added time thanks to a goal from El-Melali (90+3). This hard-won success allows Alexandre Dujeux’s men to regain the lead at Auxerre, which they are now ahead of by one point (43 against 42). Opposed to Grenoble, the Burgundians left two precious points in their quest for immediate advancement.

At the Stade des Alpes, everything got off to a flying start! Auxerre striker Florian Ayé started the hostilities in the third minute of play by scoring with a clear shot after a series of short hooks on three defenders. The Grenoblois responded four minutes later with a conceded penalty converted by Pape Ba.

During the first act, the Burgundians confiscated the ball from their opponents, multiplying the hot actions in front of the opposing goal without being precise (51st). At the end of a great collective sequence, Perrin procrastinated in the area when a strike would have been the right option (56th). Still deprived of its Malian striker Lassine Sinayoko who is playing in the CAN in Ivory Coast, AJA still had opportunities to make the difference, but its attackers lacked realism, like Maddy who, ideally served, shot weakly at the Grenoble goalkeeper (81st).

Realism was this time on the side of Saint-Étienne. Led by Dylan Chambost scorer, Les Stéphanois continued their recovery and rose to 6th place after their narrow success (1-0) in Pau which went from 5th to 10th (31pts). The Greens, who have 32 points, sign the first away victory since October 23 in Laval. The Mayenne club, dominant throughout the first period, conceded a draw (1-1) to Paris FC (9th, 31 pts) but retains its fourth place in the standings with 36 pts.

The other historic club, Bordeaux, which was left with a defeat at Auxerre, bounced back well by dominating without forcing the red lantern Valenciennes (3-1) thanks to a good second period. The Girondins climb to 13th place (25 pts).
