SCL Tigers vs. SC Bern: Langnau Wins 2-1 After Five Derby Defeats

In the paw derby between SC Bern and the SCL Tigers, the Langnauer team won 2-1, their first win after five recent derby defeats.

The game got off to a great start for the Mutzen in front of a sold-out crowd. As soon as the game started, the first Langnauer went to the penalty box. The subsequent Bern power play went well and in the second minute Marco Lehmann was able to use a rebound to give Bern the lead. The city of Bern dominated the action afterwards, goalkeeper Adam Reideborn hardly had to fend off any dangerous shots from the Tigers in the first third.

Even after the break, not much changed in the game. Both teams mostly neutralized each other. While Langnau struggled to build up the game, Bern held back on offense and relied on their recently secure defense. Shortly after the middle of the game, the Langnauers had their first power play and promptly equalized through Mäenalanen. This goal was a wake-up call for the SCL fans and their team, as Bern came under a lot of pressure as a result. And after another penalty against the Mutzen, the pressure on Adam Reideborn’s goal increased even further. Shortly before the end of the third, Langnau even took the lead with the second power play goal.

In the final section, Jussi Tapola’s team couldn’t find a way to overcome the massive Tigers defense and kept running into the Langnau wall. With the 1-2 defeat, SCB slipped back to fifth place.

There is an international break next week. The SCB continues away against the ZSC Lions on Friday, February 16th.
