The foundation stone for the construction of a Centralized Radiochemical Facility (CRF) was laid this afternoon at the SCK CEN nuclear research center in Mol. SCK CEN wants to produce purified medical radioisotopes and give more cancer patients access to life-saving care.
The foundation stone for the construction of a Centralized Radiochemical Facility (CRF) was laid this afternoon at the SCK CEN nuclear research center in Mol. SCK CEN wants to produce purified medical radioisotopes and give more cancer patients access to life-saving care.
The Nuclear Research Center already produces radioisotopes for the diagnosis and external treatment of cancer. But in the new production facility, lutetium production can be significantly increased to help 15,000 patients in 2026 and even 100,000 patients by 2029.
But in the new installation, SCK CEN can also produce purified medical radioisotopes in the future. These can also be used for the internal treatment of cancers of, for example, the prostate or cervix. This is an important step forward in the fight against cancer. More later in RTV Today.
