Mexico City. In a public session, today the ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) elect the five members (three women and two men) of the Evaluation Committee of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (PJF), which will be the first filter to select candidates for judges, magistrates and ministers for the June 2025 elections.
Once the Committee is installed, it may disqualify candidates for any position if “their lack of honesty and good public reputation” is proven; It also contemplates holding public interviews only with the candidates to the SCJN, the Disciplinary Court and the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF).
In accordance with the Bases for the integration and operation of the Evaluation Committee of the Judicial Branch of the Federation, published by the Court, it is instructed that the election of its members be carried out in a public session of the Plenary.
The Committee will be made up of three women and two men. They will be elected by majority vote.
General Agreement 4/2024 also establishes the procedure for the PJF Evaluation Committee to integrate the list of applicants.
In the case of applicants to the Court, the Disciplinary Court and the TEPJF, the evaluation includes public interviews, which establishes that in the case of applicants to join a Collegiate Court or District Court the evaluation includes an exam knowledge writing.
The lists of shortlists and pairs of candidates will be voted on and approved in a public session by the Plenary Session of the Court and will be sent to the Senate no later than February 7, 2025.
