London, Beritasatu.com – A group of researchers from the University of Bristol in England have conducted research on how long humans will be able to inhabit this Earth. By using the help of supercomputers, scientists can predict the extinction of humanity.

According to a paper published this week on natural.com, humanity may have only 250 million years left when Earth forms a large new continent.

While scientists have warned about climate change, Earth’s temperature, and greenhouse gases/emissions, they are also looking at what could possibly wipe out humanity with the help of new supercomputers.

In research written in the paper, the research team says that although the sun will expand naturally as it begins to die, and eventually engulf the earth in about two billion years, human life may not be able to achieve that event.

The simulations from this supercomputer come from a team of scientists that provides currently available data about the Earth, such as climate, ocean chemistry and the movement of tectonic plates.

Supercomputers predict that Earth’s tectonic plates will shift and fuse in the next 250 million years, creating new continents that will wreak havoc with earthquakes, volcanoes, typhoons and even temperature changes.

Meanwhile, the US Space Agency NASA estimates that a large asteroid impact could occur in Earth’s future

“A new large continent emerging would effectively create a triple whammy, consisting of a continental effect, solar heat, and more CO2 in the atmosphere, increasing heat over much of the planet,” said Dr. Alexander Farnsworth.

The paper goes on to say that in 250 million years, the Sun’s energy will increase by 2.5% of its current radiance, making the Earth warmer and creating vast areas of uninhabitable space on the planet.

According to the paper, humanity may not have been able to adapt quickly enough to deal with temperature extremes as we do today, through sweating and body cooling.

In addition, food sources are expected to become increasingly scarce along with global warming and shifting plates, making life difficult for mammals.
