Two varieties that had matured before were selected for planting. The reason is because the watermelon can adapt to low atmospheric pressure and little oxygen.

Watermelon seeds are planted in a thin layer of soil substitute. The research team also made a special light as a substitute for sunlight.

To replace the task of insects, the research team is also tasked with directly pollinating all plants.

It turns out that the watermelon grows ripe and sweet. The research team managed to produce eight seeds after 103 days of planting the seeds.

Each watermelon weighs about 1 kilogram and reaches 13 centimeters in diameter Live ScienceWednesday (9/8/2023).

AARI’s chief geophysicist, Andrei Teplyakov, commented on this encouraging result. According to him, everyone who is in the coldest place can finally remember the taste of summer through the watermelon that has been successfully implanted.

Vostok Station has repeatedly tried to grow various plants there. In addition to watermelon, the research team planted dill, basil, parsley, aurgula and cabbage in 2020.
