Scientists Reveal Earth’s Ancient Meteorite Impacts Linked to Exotic Ring System 466 Million Years Ago

Several scientists from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, have published interesting news about the past of our mother planet. About 466 million years ago, a period of meteorite impacts began on Earth, which occurred mostly in the tropical zone, less than 30 degrees from the equator.

By considering the Earth’s plate tectonics, scientists have been able to conclude that most impacts have occurred in and near the tropical zone around the equator. This in turn encourages the idea that debris must have been floating above the Earth’s equator.

A ring system around the Earth

That debris was probably created because a large planetoid came too close to Earth and was torn apart by Earth’s gravity. And so a ring system would be formed around the Earth (above the equator). The debris from these rings has rained down on Earth over time, as evidenced by the many impacts. An unusually cold period also followed, with the amount of dust thrown up. This was the coldest period in the last 500 million years. For a time, the Earth must have looked something like Saturn.

In the sky this week you will see:

Sun and Moon Times (Saturday September 28)

Sunrise: 7:34 am; under 7:20 p.m.

Moon at: 2:16 am; under 6:25 p.m

Moon – The level of our natural satellite continues to decrease and visibility becomes less. On Wednesday, October 2, there is a New Moon (invisible Virgo, constellation) at 8:50 p.m. A few days later the moon will appear in the southwest sky in the evening.

Planets – During the night, you can see Jupiter, Mars (both southeast, coming high) and Saturn (end west). Planet Saturn can be seen in the southeast from time to time after sunset, Jupiter and Mars later appear in the east-northeast from 10:15 pm. And shortly after sunset, Venus can be considered very low in the west-southwest, albeit with some difficulty.
