Jakarta –
A to boot from Paris, France, called Neoplants, produces genetically modified plants that are said to be more effective at cleaning the air than 30 units of air purification. How come?
The plant is called Neo P1, which is the result of genetic engineering of various other plants, including Pothos and the root microbiome, as quoted by BGR detikINET, Monday (14/11/2022).
So according to Neoplant researchers, with Neo P1 users not only benefit from cleaner air but can also improve mood and reduce anxiety with the presence of this plant nearby.
They claim that the Neo P1 is 30 times more effective in cleaning the air than the largest plant made by NASA, even compared to the air purification devices on the market.
The reason is that Neo P1, according to Neoplants, is better at handling volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are reactive chemicals commonly found in various household cleaners, building materials, paints, and many others. This VOC is one of the hazardous materials to the human body, also causing irritation, and is commonly found in homes.
Well, most of the air purifying products on the market are usually unable to neutralize VOCs. That’s why Neoplants can claim that Neo P1 can be better than most air purifiers.
The first plant created by genetic engineering is Pothos because it is quite popular in different countries. Even so, the manufacturing process isn’t exactly easy.
The reason is that they have to map the Pothos genome, which Neoplants says is as difficult as building an airplane while flying. Genetic engineering is done only to increase its effectiveness in cleaning the air. Other aspects of the plant remain intact, so this Pothos doesn’t grow any faster than regular Pothos, nor can it be more resistant to pesticides than other plants.
Currently, Neoplants has commercialized the Neo P1 and the price offered is quite high for one implant. This is USD 179 or around Rp. 2.7 million.
