scientists named the best countries for survival

New Zealand and Australia topped the list of regions with the highest chances of surviving any disaster, including nuclear winter.

Scientists have conducted a study and identified the best countries where you can survive a nuclear apocalypse. They presented the rating in an article published in the journal Risk Analysis.

The best countries to survive

Researchers Matt Boyd and Nick Wilson have predicted the impact of global catastrophes on 38 island nations. They considered both man-made and natural disasters that could wipe out most of the Earth’s population, including nuclear war and an asteroid strike. Scientists took into account factors such as the speed of the region’s recovery for food and energy production, as well as the availability of places to hide and wait out mass disasters.

They concluded that in such cases, people in New Zealand and Australia have the best chance of survival. They are followed by Iceland, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, a group of islands in the South Pacific. Good chances to survive the disaster were in Indonesia, the Philippines and Mauritius.

New Zealand

New Zealand is considered the safest place in the event of a nuclear apocalypse, as it is resistant to sudden changes in temperature and surrounded by an ocean that protects against the effects of nuclear winter. In addition, it does not have nuclear weapons, so large states are unlikely to attack it. In the worst case, New Zealand will lose 61% of its crops, but still retain enough food to survive. The main problem is the cessation of trade with the UK and the US, as well as unreliable sources of energy supply and weak industry.

Australia and Iceland

Another leader, Australia, has a huge supply of food that will help people survive in the event of the loss of animals and crops. Iceland is more at risk because of NATO membership, but it has many sources of renewable energy, as well as large stocks of fish.

“Technological society can collapse even in those countries that have the greatest chance of survival. This can seriously impede cooperation, coordination and food production,” the authors of the study noted. “Trade in food, energy, components and expertise is essential to maximize the chances of survival in the face of harsh climate impacts and cascading impacts on many human and ecological systems.”

Earlier, scientists from the United States showed the consequences of a nuclear strike by Russia. A computer simulation showed that a global war would begin, as a result of which 34 million people would die in just five hours, another 55.9 would be injured. In the second phase, which will last 45 minutes, another 3.4 million people will die.

Professor Douglas Rushkoff predicted how billionaires are going to survive after a nuclear apocalypse. According to him, many rich people have already prepared huge bunkers where they can not only live, but even walk dogs and keep horses.
