The data collected from the two Mars missions were combined to explain why the red planet shook on Christmas Eve 2021. NASA’s InSight Lander felt the ground shake that day.

Since then, scientists have learned more about the event thanks to images from NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), which spotted a previously unnoticed giant ice hole on the red planet, two and a half months after the lander heard the rhombus.
