Scientists have said whether people will be able to settle on two recently discovered planets

An international team of scientists has discovered two planets where humans could one day live.

A stellar international team of researchers has said in a peer-reviewed study published in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics that they may have just found two potentially habitable Earth-like planets.

The team explained that while many exoplanets (planets that orbit a star outside our solar system) have been discovered so far that have similar masses and radii to Earth, there are far fewer in what scientists call habitable zones (zones habitable, Hz). Habitable zones are areas where, according to the study, liquid water “on the surface of the planet” can exist.

The researchers then proudly unveiled their discovery of two more Earth-like exoplanets orbiting a nearby star in our solar system, both in HZ stars.

“Nature seems eager to show us that planets like Earth are very common,” said study author Alejandro Suárez Mascarenho of the Canary Institute of Astrophysics.

These two planets, added to the list of other habitable planets, make up the total list of seven discovered so far, he said.

The star around which the two planets orbit is called GJ 1002 and is less than 16 light years from our solar system. A planet closest to the star takes about 10 days to complete a full orbit, while an outer planet takes just over 21 days.

The researchers concluded that these two planets are prime candidates for someday human habitation.

Now, in two of the toughest worlds ever seen in the Milky Way, astronomers have discovered the heavier metal.
