Four times larger than our own planet, the new “super-Earth” is only 36.5 light-years away. The super-Earth, named Ross 508b, was found while orbiting a star.
NEW SUPER WORLD: ROSS 508B
According to the news of the Daily Mail; The exoplanet, named Ross 508b, was discovered in the habitable zone of a faint red dwarf. It completes its orbit around its star every 10.75 days. The 10.75-day revolution is much faster than the 365-day revolution the Earth takes around the Sun. However, it should be taken into account that; The star orbiting Ross 508b is much smaller and dimmer than the Sun.
Experts consider it unlikely to be habitable for life as we know it. The newly described world is likely to be terrestrial or rocky in much the same way as Earth, rather than gas.
Ross 508b was spotted by an international team of astronomers using the Subaru Telescope National Astronomical Observatory. Described in a paper led by astronomer Hiroki Harakawa of the Subaru Telescope, Ross 508 b is the first exoplanet to study.
Additionally, with 18 percent of the Sun’s mass, Ross 508 is one of the smallest, faintest stars with an orbiting planet discovered using radial velocity.
This discovery points to important things for the future.
