The new coronavirus can lead to the death of neurons in the cerebral cortex, not only in patients who have had severe illness, but in those who did not need hospitalization. This conclusion was made by a group of Brazilian scientists who published the results of their research in the electronic scientific library medRxiv. This is stated on the portal G1.
Scientists believe that coronavirus can cause diseases such as schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. As noted, in the case of severe patients, death is expected, since they have a low level of blood oxygen saturation, which is very harmful to the brain. However, when such major changes are found in patients with mild to moderate illnesses, it is a matter of concern, says one of the scientific coordinators at the University of São Paulo in Campinas (Unicamp).
