JAKARTA – Fish in the ocean the types and numbers are very numerous. In the Koran is written about its existence, and science helped explain further.
Regarding the fish in the ocean, Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala said:
And it is the one who mocked the sea to eat from it a soft flesh, and you will come out from it a solution that you will wear it, and you will see it, and it will be done.
Meaning: “And He it is Who subjected the sea (for you) so that you may eat from it fresh meat (fish), and you bring out of it ornaments that you wear; and you see the ark sailing on it, and so that you seek (profit) of His bounty, and that you may be thankful. ” (QS An Nahl: 14).
Quoted from the book Smart Science in the Koran, Dr. Nadiah Thayyarah, if you think about the shape of fish in general, you can notice that their body shape is thin and slender to make it easier for them to move in the water.
The body of the fish is covered with scales that protect it when rubbing against aquatic plants and fighting with other marine animals.
Scientists have tried to examine the fins of fish, and the result is that fish fins are a device for pushing, balancing, directing, and braking the speed of fish.
The fin is a motor organ for fish. The fins are skin folds reinforced with spines. The pectoral and pelvic fins balance the fish to keep it parallel to the water.
That is, when the two fins move together it means that they are functioning like paddles that push the fish forward in a calm swimming state.
The two fins can also move independently, not in the direction of each other. If so, it means that both are functioning like a ship’s rudder that directs the direction of fish movement.
The caudal fin functions – together with the tail muscles – to push the fish forward. Also helping the movement of fish is the release of water from under the gill covers.
Furthermore, the dorsal and anal fins work to keep the fish’s body balanced in the water. Thus the back of the fish stays on top, while the belly stays down, especially when the fish is still (not moving) in the water.
Fish have a “swimming bag” which is filled with air. On the walls of the swim bladder are glands that produce gas. This bag is useful for changing the specific gravity of the fish while in the water.
So, when the fish swims down, the weight of the species will increase. Meanwhile, if he swims upwards, his weight will decrease.
The reduction and increase in specific gravity is done by reducing and increasing the contents of the swimming bag. This way, the fish can move easily in the water, both up and down, without straining their muscles.
Fish have two networks of cells on two sides. Each tissue contains sensory cells that are affected by vibrations and water currents. In this way the fish can sense changes in pressure in the water.
Among the amazing organs of the fish body are the gills, their respiratory organs. The fish will open its mouth, water enters its mouth, then it closes its mouth; Water also flows through the holes on the sides.
