Scientists discover the theory of the formation of the earth. photo/ IST
As reported by Unilad, (14/8/2022), the findings were obtained after researchers from Curtin University in Perth, Australia analyzed zircon mineral crystals from Pilbara Craton to investigate the origin of the rock.

dr. Tim Johnson of Curtin’s School of Earth and Planetary Sciences said the research provided the first strong evidence of the process that eventually formed Earth’s continents that began with the impact of a giant meteorite.
“It’s the same meteorite that was responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs billions of years ago.”
“Throughout the last 4.5 billion years of Earth’s history, landmasses that were divided and drifted have been reunited. This is the result of heat from radioactive processes in parts of the planet that cause these plates to move.”
“However, most of the crust will be strong, permanent and stable over time and this process is known as cratoning,” he said.
A craton is a piece of the planet’s crust that has remained intact for billions of years, while other pieces have broken apart and moved to form continents.
dr. Johnson claims this is the strongest evidence yet of the decades-old theory that Earth’s continents were formed by the impact of a giant meteorite.
He emphasized that an understanding of the formation and continental evolution sustainability is important because humans are very dependent on it.
