Scientists Discover Oldest Forest Near New York City

American scientists say they have discovered that a forest located a few hours’ drive from New York may be the oldest ever recorded.

The Binghamton University research team already knew that this forest existed and that it appeared to be ancient, but they recently completed their analysis which indicates that it is the oldest forest known to date, reports BBC News.

The study of this woodland located in the territory of the city of Cairo, two hours from New York, began in 2019.

Scientists have since been able to determine that stones found there are approximately 385 million years old, according to the New York Post.

In this forest we find trees that reproduced with spores, not with seeds.

Although it once spanned more than 400 square kilometers, the forest is now only barely the size of half a football field.

It is not accessible to the public to allow scientists to carry out more research.
