Jakarta – The human species is not used to causing a stir. The species was discovered by scientists studying ancient skulls. This species is known to have no chin.
This finding is thanks to scientists’ research of an ancient skull belonging to a child who lived 300,000 years ago. The fossils studied included jaws, skullcaps and leg bones.
Reported from detikInet, the fossil was found in mainland China in Hualangdong to be precise in 2019. Scientists were surprised that the facial features of the boy’s skull did not match those of other Neanderthal lineages. As a result, suspicions arose if the human came from an unidentified branch.
The results of the study concluded that the fossils found belonged to children aged 12-13 years. As the view of experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the child’s body also reflects primitive nature.
This species has no true chin. So that the fossils are called more like ancient humans in Denisovan Asia which became extinct more than 400 thousand years ago.
But there was something different on the side of his face. Researchers revealed that the face of the fossil is more like modern humans. So the researchers concluded that there is a new lineage that is likely a branch of modern humans and leads to the Denisovans.
This combination of fossil features has never before been observed in East Asia. This suggests that the traits found in modern humans began to appear as early as 300,000 years ago.
As for the species, the research team ruled out Denisovans. This raises the possibility that the fossil represents a third lineage that was neither Denisovans nor Homo erectus and was closer to Homo sapiens.
Studies of this fossil have been published in the Journal of Human Evolution. However, further studies are still needed for a more detailed understanding.
