Scientists Discover New Human Micro-Organ ‘Exclusome’ that Boosts Immune System, Prevents Infections

Scientists at the Institute of Biochemistry at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich have discovered a new human micro-organ that helps the immune system and prevents infections from entering the body.

The work by biochemists and molecular biologists is published in Molecular Biology of the Cell.

The Swiss scientists gave the new organ the name “exclusome”.

The exclusosome is part of the liquid interior of the cytoplasm. Scientists have shown that human DNA is not only in the nucleus of the cell, but also in the liquid environment around it.

Biologists have discovered that pieces of DNA exist outside the cell nucleus because of the exclusosome, which holds them in place. In addition, the exclusome of microorganisms blocks various infections, preventing them from entering the nucleus.

Scientists also believe that the exclusome influences the development of autoimmune diseases, which makes it possible to develop new methods of treating them.
