Scientists come to the conclusion that water does not exist – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Water as such does not exist in nature. The participants of the 3rd All-Russian Conference “Physics of Aqueous Solutions”, which took place at the end of the outgoing year, came to such a conclusion, which is not obvious for a common man in the street.

The representative forum was organized by the General Physics Institute named after A.M. Prokhorov RAS. Within the framework of the two-day forum, reports were presented by scientists from a number of institutes of physical and chemical profile, specialists in the field of biophysics and pharmaceuticals.

According to scientists, what we call water is in fact always an aqueous solution. From the point of view of chemistry, water as a liquid cannot be represented by a single set of identical molecules H2Oh, this is a complex system of various molecules, ions and associates. The participants of the conference, which this time due to a difficult epidemic situation was held online, paid special attention to the fact that an aqueous solution is a non-equilibrium system and its properties can change during the experiment.

The plenary report of the chairman of the conference, academician-secretary of the Physical Sciences Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences, scientific director of the A.M. Prokhorov RAS, academician I.A. Shcherbakov, a brief overview of the most important results obtained since the previous conference was presented. A physical model that explains the presence of elastic scattering in aqueous solutions by nanoobjects of unknown nature, including at high dilution levels, aroused great interest. The model assumes the formation of nanoclusters, in which H2O and N2ABOUT2 connected through hydrogen bonds.

The presented experimental studies of the concentration dependences of molecular hydrogen, molecular oxygen, hydrogen peroxide at multiple dilutions have convincingly demonstrated that when a certain number of dilutions is reached, the relationship between the number of dilutions and the concentration is lost. This occurs after equalization of the properties of the solution and solvent. In this case, further dilution in the absence of external influences does not lead to a change in the properties of the solution.

What we call water is actually an aqueous solution. From the point of view of chemistry, water as a liquid cannot be represented by a single set of identical molecules H2ABOUT

The situation changes dramatically if the dilution process is accompanied by an external action on the solution, such as magnetic field induction or turbulent mixing under vibration. This confirms the assumption that during the preparation of aqueous solutions of ultra-low concentrations with vigorous shaking, new properties of these same solutions appear.

The conference participants consider it necessary to continue a comprehensive study of aqueous solutions, the dynamics of the processes occurring in them, which is the basis of the life of biological systems.
