Maurice Bucaille was a French surgeon and writer known for his work in the fields of science and religion. Quoted from the Arab News page, Maurice Bucaille was born into a Christian family.
After completing his secondary education, Maurice joined the Faculty of Medicine at a French University. As time went by, he became a leading surgeon in his country.
One day, his life changed when France requested access to Egypt to research the Pharaoh’s mummy in the 1980s. Maurice was selected to lead the research.
In the research, it was discovered that the remains of salt were attached to the mummy’s body, indicating that the Pharaoh died by drowning in the sea. This made Maurice wonder why a mummy’s body that had been submerged for so long was still in good condition?
One day, Maurice went to Saudi Arabia to attend a medical conference with Muslim scientists. There, he heard the story about Pharaoh’s body remaining intact even though it drowned.
One of the participants read a verse from the Koran that illustrates this, namely Surah Yunus verse 92.
Today We will save you with your body so that you may be a sign for those behind you. Indeed, many people are heedless of Our signs.
Meaning: “So today We save your body so that you can be a lesson for those who come after you and indeed most of humanity is heedless of Our signs.”
Then, Maurice was impressed by the sentence. He intends to convert to Islam and believe in the Qur’an.
These correspondences astonished Bucaille. As a scientist accustomed to strict scientific methodology, he could find no other explanation than that the Qur’an came from a true source and had knowledge far beyond his time.

Ahmad Tantowi, M.Si, M.Pd, Maurice Bucaille wrote in his book The Bible, Al-Quran, and Science, feeling amazed by the content of the Al-Qur’an. He stated that the Koran is an objective holy book and contains instructions for the development of modern science.
According to him, the content of the teachings of the Koran is perfect and does not conflict with the findings of modern science. From its interpretation of the ideas contained in the Koran, modern science can develop rapidly and play its role in developing this world.
The story of Maurice Bucaille is an example of how scientific research can lead someone to Islam. This shows that Islam is not in conflict with science, in fact the Koran contains a lot of extraordinary scientific knowledge.
