Scientific readings dedicated to the writer and the poet Jānis Poruks will take place The news

Riga, October 8, LETA. To mark the anniversary of the Latvian writer and poet Jānis Poruks, lectures “Jānis Poruks-150” will take place at the Janis Rozentāls and Rūdolfs Blaumanis Museum on October 16 at 1 pm, the museum representative Maija Ārena informed LETA.

She said that in seven lectures, the specialists of the Association of Memorial Museums, each representing the museum of their personality, will talk about the relationship and contact with Asuka, Aspazija, Rainis, Jānis Akuraters, Krišjānis Barons, Blaumanis, Andrejs Upītis and Rozentāls.

Rainis and Aspazija summer house specialist Astrīda Cīrule will present the topic “Aspazija and Poruks. Editorial life scenes”. The turn of the 19th and 20th centuries is the time when the editors of Arnolds Plāte’s press publications “Mājas Viesis”, “Mājas Viesa Mēnešraksts” and “Dienas Lapa”, edited by Pēteris and Hermīne Zālīte, gather a pleiad of later classics. Blaumanis, Poruks, Aspazija, Augusts Deglavs work together here.

Jānis Zālītis, a senior expert of the Rainis and Aspazija House, will present the report “Jānis Poruks in the Rainis Library and Diary”. Maija Ārena, a specialist at the Rozentāls and Blaumanis Museum, will speak on the topic “Rūdolfs Blaumanis and the silence poet Jānis Poruks”, introducing the 12-year communication between the two writers, which begins and ends as a friendship.

Maira Valtere, the head of the Jānis Akuraters Museum, will speak on the topic “Poet in the Autumn Night – Jānis Poruks and Jānis Akuraters”. In turn, the head of the Baron’s Museum Rūta Kārkliņa will present the sketch “A Moment in the House of Burtnieki”.

Arnis Koroševskis, a specialist at the Andrejs Upītis Memorial Museum, will reveal how Upīts, being a distinctly left-wing, dogmatically realistic and socially oriented literary critic, has evaluated the works of Romantic and modernism by the bright representative of Poruks.

The event will end with Dace Vosa, the head of the Rozentāls and Blaumanis Museum, with a sketch “Two Portraits of a Romantic Poet”. Although Poruks does not belong to Rozentāls’ closest circle of acquaintances, the paths of the writer and painter have collided. Rozentals is the author of two portraits of Poruka, as well as the author of the design of the 2nd volume of Poruka Collected Articles.

The event will be available online on the Rozentāls and Blaumanis Museum’s social media Facebook page. To attend the lectures in person, you must fill in the questionnaire, which is available by following the link “ieej.lv/JK6l” or by calling the phone number 26392540. Upon arrival at the event, visitors will be required to present an identity document together with a valid Covid-19 vaccination or disease certificate.
