Itirelessly, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (UICN)
continues its inventory of species threatened with extinction. In December 2021, the large family of dragonflies and damselflies was entitled to its count: out of 6,016 species listed in the world, nearly 1,000 are flirting with extinction. That is a rate of 16%. This erosion of biodiversity affects even the environments that are the most distant from us. According to an inventory carried out by the Queen’s University (Belfast), 62% of the 184 species of molluscs living near hydrothermal springs are destined for near extinction.
This is how the milestone of 40,000 species threatened with extinction has just been crossed. How to reverse the trend? It’s impossible, for good reason…
