Science Market Showcase: Students from Linde College Present Chemistry and Biology Research

Students from classes 3, 4 and 5 vwo of Linde College in Wolvega held a Science market on Thursday. Here they presented their research that they worked on during their chemistry and biology lessons. Parents and carers were invited to visit the market.

The studies were very diverse. Vwo 3 was given the assignment to devise a scientific study. This generated many different ideas. Vwo 4 was commissioned to examine a problem from the past decades. For example, students investigated the cause and consequences of particulate matter, PFAS and plastic. Vwo 5 made the exhibition ‘Treasure your risk’. Pupils investigated the possible risks of a specific substance when ingested.

Teacher Else Henneke: ,,As a school, we think it is important to make the connection between theory and practice, especially in subjects such as biology and chemistry. Through these kinds of projects, students also learn what theoretical knowledge can mean in everyday life.”

Visitors were also allowed to vote for the best presentation. A winner was chosen from each grade. In class 3, Rosalynn and Esther won. They made their presentation in the form of a book with a story by Miffy. The story was about the HPV virus and the vaccination. Tycho, Anton, Esmée and Ingmar won class 4. Their presentation was about PFAS. Vera and Seles’ research into the use of methyl bromide in transport containers and the consequences for human health was awarded the prize in year 5.

In addition to the presentations, a room was set up as a Science Café, with coffee and tea for visitors. In addition, all kinds of goodies were sold. The entire proceeds will benefit Kika.
