Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – The Freiburg scientist Barbara Di Ventura receives two million euros from the European Research Council for her research project on cancer therapy. As the University of Freiburg announced on Wednesday, the award is a so-called Consolidator Grant. The prestigious award is given to European scientists.
Di Ventura wants to develop a treatment that, unlike chemotherapy, only destroys human cancer cells and spares the remaining tissue. To do this, the engineer and biologist put together synthetic protein networks that are introduced into cancer cells and intended to kill them from within. The effect should be controlled by light.
