Science Festival – Le journal du Gers: Online and continuous news journal dealing with the news of Auch and Gers

The A Ciel Ouvert association is coordinating two major national events in the Gers in October:

Science Festival which takes place from October 1 to 9 in the department, with a Science Village in Mirande from October 5 to October 9, room andré Beaudran. From 5th to 8th access is reserved for schoolchildren. Saturday, October 9 is open to the general public

The Day of the Night, Saturday, October 9, with entertainment from 9:00 p.m. at the Mirande leisure center.

The Village des Sciences de Mirande,

Young and old are invited to a (re) discovery of science thanks to numerous activities. The Science Village brings together several scientific workshops around the following themes:

  • Experimenting with the spatial vacuum: Experiments on the effects of the vacuum. Space contains so little matter that it can be considered empty. It is a difficult notion to perceive on Earth, but when we can reproduce this state, by means of a vacuum bell, it gives impressive and spectacular experiences: How to attenuate the sound, to inflate a balloon “without” air , boil water at 40 ° …?
  • I program my first Martian robot: Robotics and programming with the Bluebot robot. 2021 will have been marked by the return of exploration missions on the red planet. With the programmable robot Bluebot, we will be able to simulate the missions of a robot on Mars: Reach the coordinates of scientific objectives while avoiding obstacles.
  • Awareness of “digital identity” through the use of augmented reality filters. Through this workshop, children will be able to discover behind the scenes of the filters they use on a daily basis on social networks. They will be able to draw their own textures that we will apply on digital masks with which they can interact in real time.
One of the challenges of this animation is for children to become aware of and reclaim their digital identity. Social networks are complex spaces for children to understand, the digital filter makes it possible to raise this complexity by combining entertainment, learning and awareness.
We will be using Spark AR software that will allow us to program the filters without having to program.
  • Learn-O – Motivation Booster Learn-O is a very fun and stimulating educational concept that allows users to be joyful, autonomous actors in their learning. It is a playful and kinesthetic tool that allows you to learn while having fun and having fun while learning.
An electronic finger, a challenge card and let’s go for a multitude of exercises on various themes!
The participant is fully involved in his progress, placed in a situation of autonomy by asking the head and legs, respecting his own rhythm.
It is intended for everyone, from the age of three. Everything is immediate: pleasure, learning, correction.
Learn-O 31-82 offers different configurations, several activity modes and many variables allowing to multiply the ways of learning and to use the large quantity of exercises proposed, in a way adapted to each objective, each public and each participant.
  • Science in all its forms: 3 15-minute workshops to discover: Each workshop can accommodate small groups of students. Thus, an entire class can be shared and perform the 3 workshops in turn.
    1. Risk management – Noise: How to measure it, what danger and how to protect yourself? – Safety: what is PPMS, what should we do? – Prevent fires: how to detect a fire risk area and prevent the outbreak of a fire?
    2. Helpful bacteria. Food and Environmental Bacteria: Shape, Size, and Weird Name. Each bacterium has its place and its importance in the balance of life on earth.
    3. Environmental management. Plants are a great help in preserving the environment. Children will be able to manipulate different measuring instruments used by scientists to understand how a plant works.
  • Radio amateurs: A fascinating journey around the waves with history and demonstrations of wireless transmissions: Wave propagation, satellite links, radio telescope, image transmissions, weather satellite decoding, sounding balloons, aircraft identifications, objects entering the atmosphere. Initiation to telegraphy.
  • Tree and landscapes: Biodiversity and agricultural landscape. Discussion around the word landscape and biodiversity followed by various workshops:
    • Construction of a landscape from a wooden construction game.
    • Reading of species sheets and extraction of vital needs in terms of habitat. Presentation of woodlands and their interests for the functioning of the landscape.
    • Recomposition of the landscape to promote biodiversity and respond to local constraints.
    • Recognition of the few tree species using samples and illustrative cards.
  • It’s decided … I reduce my waste! : Come and find out where your waste goes, what is its lifespan, how to recover it … and above all, why and how to reduce it!
  • Nature in all directions! Nature outings to discover the “unloved ones” and sensory activities. Walk to discover the unloved ones (nettles, spiders, foxes …) through our 5 senses (kim odor, bags to touch, play of sounds …) to get to know them better and become their ambassadors.
  • Introduction to marine biology through scuba diving: Exhibition and interactive workshop to learn about the mysteries of the seabed. 3 themes are discussed in an exhibition: An interactive workshop for schoolchildren is set up with a light and sound quiz built by the students.
    • Scuba diving (equipment and rules governing it)
    • Marine biology (presentation of particular species and classification of species)
    • Preservation of the marine environment with the example of the Cerbère-Banyuls Reserve
  • Mathematical Escape Game: Solve puzzles as a team! A team finds itself locked in a room. She owes her salvation only to her ability to solve puzzles.
It will be necessary to have the qualities of MATHS to go out: Malin, Atempting, Tenace, Habile et Ssociable! The concepts involved are accessible to everyone from middle school.
  • Retinal persistence: one eye is very deceptive

Does the eye sometimes have a little ignition delay? So much the better, humans have been able to take advantage of it to have fun and explore a number of optical illusions. During the workshop we will offer you to understand what retinal persistence is.
This particularity has enabled us in particular to create cinema and all kinds of optical objects. We will therefore explore this marvelous artistic world which opens up to us thanks to this biological originality.
It will be a question of observing optical objects (thaumatropes, leaflets) and animated films to understand how it works, then to create an optical object.

  • Discovering pre-Columbian mathematics

Three civilizations in the spotlight: the Mayas, the Aztecs, the Incas.
The pre-Columbian civilizations (or pre-Hispanic, before 1492, date of the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus) mastered knowledge such as:

    • in mathematics, numeration.
    • in astronomy, calendars
    • in architecture, temples and cities
    • in agronomy, irrigation, corn, potatoes, chocolate.
  • Math games

Do math while having fun and manipulating
Doing math while having fun and manipulating with games adapted to different audiences – from nursery school to high school students, students and the general public – allows you to search by reasoning by analogy, induction and deduction. This also makes it possible to manipulate to provoke reflection, to model …

All these themes will be approached in a fun way in the form of experiments, live manipulations, videos, exhibitions and observations.
