Talk about science and cancer in front of the camera and with humor. A daring and successful bet with the popular science program “In vivo” of the ARC Foundation for Cancer Research which started on September 8, 2021 on the Foundation’s website.
5 researchers coached by a comedian
How can we make the issues of cancer research intelligible and understandable without very quickly a public that is little informed or trained in scientific language “picks up”? In short, how to capture attention in the face of these ultra-sharp subjects where words are often obscure?
To overcome this obstacle, the ARC Foundation for Cancer Research had a (very good) idea: to organize a national casting with the community specializing in oncology in order to identify candidates capable of explaining their work, obviously cutting-edge but the whole thing. in a fun and offbeat way. As a result, five researchers were finally selected, and all were then coached by the comedian, Karim Duval. These five researchers are:
- Rafael Argüello, research fellow at the Marseille-Luminy Immunology Center
- Christophe Bécavin, teacher-researcher in bioinformatics at the University of Côte d’Azur
- Sandra Claret, teacher-researcher at the Jacques Monod Institute of the University of Paris
- Françoise Pflumio, research director and laboratory manager at Inserm
- Aude-Marie Foucaut, STAPS lecturer at Sorbonne Paris-Nord University.
5 videos allowing to understand the challenges of cancer research
Diction, gesture… The presentations were obviously worked on by laureates full of resources who prove to be very comfortable, particularly convincing and above all funny.
Each capsule starts in a conventional way, the serious terms which annoy being very quickly pronounced but as soon as said, here are the researchers who become actors, poets, “slammers” … In short, metamorphosed and all able to explain in a few minutes in front of the camera , with humor, in a quirky and exciting way, the nature of their work and their challenges, each according to his style and personality.
In the end, five small videos making it possible to understand the challenges of cancer research in an unconventional way were posted from September 8, 2021 at the rate of one per day for five days.. Discover the first two below:
The other three episodes are to be discovered on the channel ARC Foundation YouTube.
