Science Cafe: Dark matter and dark energy: what’s the deal?

Ddark matter and dark energy are still big mysteries in modern physics. We don’t see them, they don’t emit anything measurable and are therefore invisible. Only circumstantial evidence has made it clear that they must be there.

Known matter only accounts for about 15% of the total calculated mass in the universe. Where is the other 85%?

Are anti-tome nuclei going to help us learn more about dark matter and what do black holes have to do with dark matter and dark energy?

prof. dr. Rien van de Weijgaert is a cosmologist and collaborates with research groups all over the world. His current research mainly focuses on the cosmic web.

prof. dr. Rien van de Weijgaert is cosmologist and professor at the Kapteyn Institute, department of astronomy of the University of Groningen. His scientific interests include the cosmic web, the largest structure in the universe, which emerged under the influence of gravity after the big bang, and certainly also the mysterious dark matter and dark energy. “No one has the slightest idea what it is,” he said in 2011.
