A European conference on faith and science was organised by the Geoscience Research Institute (GRI) in London. The event brought together over 50 participants from Europe, Africa, America and Asia, creating a space for exchange and reflection for Christian researchers.
An essential dialogue between science and the Bible
Over the course of four days, students, scientists and professionals from different backgrounds explored the complex links between science and faith. Crucial themes such as the role of the Bible in scientific research, the challenges of scientism and fundamentalism, and the influence of conceptions of origin on societal issues were addressed.
The presentations and discussions highlighted the tension between naturalist theories and the biblical perspective, emphasizing the importance of a critical and informed approach to science. The visit to the Natural History Museum in London provided a practical opportunity to apply these reflections to scientific collections.
Encouraging and equipping Christian seekers
One of the main goals of the conference was to support Christian researchers in their scientific endeavors by providing a space for sharing and mentoring. Participants were able to exchange ideas, deepen their knowledge, and build valuable professional connections.
The event served to reaffirm the crucial role of Christian scholars in disseminating a biblical perspective on origins, while continuing their scientific work with excellence.
Concrete projects for the future
The conference concluded on a note of hope and commitment. Participants expressed their desire to actively contribute to the dialogue between faith and science.
Concrete initiatives were announced, including the celebration of the Creation Sabbath on October 26, 2024, a field conference on the theme of geology in the Paris Basin in November 2024, a conference on biology for students in 2025, as well as the launch of a series of monthly webinars.
The GRI, in collaboration with the Euro-African divisions of the Adventist Church, thus wishes to continue its action with young people, students and professionals, by encouraging them to live their faith in an enlightened and committed manner in the scientific world.
