#SCHWUL: “Matthias & Maxime” in the cinema

A gay movie starts nationwide in November.

A relationship between friendship and love; two sensitive protagonists in search of themselves and their own sexuality; dominant mother and absent father figures; a young director who tells a semi-autobiographical story in front of the camera just as sensitively as behind it – all these characteristics of a real Xavier Dolan melodrama can also be found in his latest masterpiece Matthias maximum your place.

The unusual love story accompanies two young men – Matthias (Gabriel D’Almeida Freitas) and Maxime (Xavier Dolan) – on their highly emotional journey to the realization that they might be more than best friends after all.

Matthias and Maxime have been best friends since childhood and can’t even imagine going their separate ways suddenly. But growing up means change and so Maxime is drawn to Australia for a long time. In the days before his departure, the two of them are led from one party to the next with their friends. When one of her friends, a film student, is still looking for two actors for her latest short film, Matthias and Maxime are hired without further ado and not entirely against their will. The crux of the matter? The two have to kiss in front of the camera and this suddenly shakes everything.

The German cinema premiere is in Berlin-Mitte, on November 2nd, 2020 at Kino International.
