Schwerin wins favorites against the Roten Raben

Cilsbiburg – pm (11/18/2023) The Red Raben were also unable to stop SSC Palmberg Schwerin’s triumph in the Bundesliga. In front of 1,450 spectators in the ball sports hall, head coach Juan Diego Garcia Diaz’s team lost to the undefeated leaders 0:3 (22:25, 16:25, 14:25) and thus remains in 6th place in the table.

The two teams will see each other again in just four days – on Wednesday (7 p.m.) Vilsbiburg and Schwerin will meet in the quarter-finals of the DVV Cup, the venue will once again be the ball sports hall.

The hosts’ starting six in the league duel were Hannah Kohn in the pass, Pauline Martin on diagonal, the outside attackers Monika Salkute and Anna Spanou as well as Yeisy Soto and Britte Stuut in the middle block; Patricia Nestler acted as Libera. A very interesting first set developed, in which there was virtually no difference between the sixth-placed team and the table leader. The Ravens turned a 7:10 into a 13:12 and a 14:17 into a 21:20. It was only at the very end that little things tipped the scales in favor of the favorite, who prevailed with 22:25.

Nevertheless, it was a really strong Vilsbiburg sentence that can be built on in many ways. The Ravens were unable to maintain this level in the second half. Although they worked their way from 5:10 to 11:12, Schwerin not only scored six points in a row, but also hurried to an unchallenged set win in the style of a real top team: 16:25.

In the third period the hosts tried everything again; Coach Juan Diego Garcia Diaz made a lot of changes, bringing in Kim Klein Lankhorst for the pass, Alondra Vazquez in the wing attack and Serena Bruin as a middle blocker, but a 3:12 deficit proved to be too heavy a burden for the desired comeback. Schwerin routinely brought the match home against the never-giving-up Raben, although an interestingly timed video challenge from guest coach Felix Koslowski failed when they were leading the set 21:12 and 2:0.

There was nothing to deny the league leaders’ deserved success. “They are just a very good team,” said Juan Diego Garcia Diaz appreciatively. The Vilsbiburg coach also saw a need for improvement in his own performance in sets two and three: “We have to serve better and present ourselves more strongly in block defense.” They will analyze the defeat precisely and look for their chance again in the cup on Wednesday. Yeisy Soto was named MVP for the Raben, and top scorer Elles Dambrink (15 points) for Schwerin.
