Actually, the double budget 2021/22 for the state capital Schwerin should long ago have been decided. At least if, according to Lord Mayor and Chief Financial Officer Dr. Rico Badenschier would have left. But several committees saw it differently. They still needed to be discussed – for very different reasons. So they decided not to take a decision on the draft budget. In other words, you decided to postpone it. Most recently, this also happened in the Finance Committee, including against the votes of the Greens and the SPD. Both therefore saw the paper as adequately discussed. The Greens, however, specified this external perception when asked by our editorial team. The SPD parliamentary group in Schwerin maintained its criticism.

Actually, the double budget should long ago have been decided
“We don’t want to hide the fact that the shift has given us air. Especially since we are expected to come up with counter-funding proposals for amendments. Indeed, that requires a deep immersion in matter. The establishment plan was also presented very late, and we still have questions about this. The postponement gives us the opportunity to work more thoroughly, ”said Greens parliamentary leader Regina Dorfmann to our editorial team at the end of October. Your SPD colleague in the office of the parliamentary group leadership, Mandy Pfeiffer, however, stayed with her criticism of the postponement. “That is not in the interests of the well-being of our urban society, especially not of the clubs, companies and contractors,” said Pfeifer.
Now this quite consistently negative attitude towards postponing the budget decision may also be due to the fact that the parliamentary group has firmly resolved to appoint Lord Mayor Dr. To consistently support Rico Badenschier (also SPD). In a press conference shortly after Christian Maasch took over the chairmanship of the parliamentary group, Pfeifer had specifically announced this. One wants and will clearly stand by the side of the mayor and support his policies.
SPD relies on additional funds in the education sector
Despite this resistance to a postponement, the SPD parliamentary group in Schwerin, led by Pfeifer, still used the time to work out further amendments of its own for the draft budget. Basically, the city submission is still largely welcomed. “In particular, the new approach to digitizing schools and school renovations are close to my heart,” says Mandy Pfeifer. “However, we still see additional needs in the education and children and youth sectors”. The shift that has been criticized so far is now also benefiting the SPD and one of its key issues.
Specifically, the Social Democrats want to achieve the continuation of the “Ataraxia goes Mueßer Holz” project. Children should continue to be able to receive free music school lessons in various educational institutions in the district. The SPD parliamentary group would also like to achieve an increase in the number of hours for the school secretaries and an increase in city funding for the Schwerin women’s refuge. In addition, planning costs for a special experimental school in Mueßer Holz and again for a book machine in the city library are included in the proposed changes. “The ‘Experimental School in Mueßer Holz’ project enables the creation of completely new learning opportunities at a location for which we want to attract new residents. And for better communication between the parents and the school, the secretariats of the schools in the city should in future be available during the opening hours of the respective schools, ”said the chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group in Schwerin. The school should be a suitable offer especially for children with special needs in the emotional-social area.
