SchulKinoWoche Bayern moves project week into digital space – Bavarian state portal

MUNICH, March 29, 2021 SchulKinoWoche Bayern will be relocated to digital terrain for the first time from April 26 to May 5. The reason for this is the extended lockdown until mid-April and the resulting planning uncertainty. Cinemas in Bavaria are currently still closed, so that no school events can be held there.

In consultation with the Ministry of Culture, the nationwide organizer Vision Kino and the sponsors, the organizers of the project week have now decided to cancel the planned screenings and events in the participating Bavarian cinemas and to replace part of the diverse offerings in the virtual room.

The organizers of the country’s largest project to promote film and media literacy did not make the decision easy for themselves: “With a heavy heart, we made the decision together with all those involved that we would not allow the project week to promote film literacy to take place in the cinemas as usual . Nevertheless, with the replacement program, we would like to continue to offer the schoolchildren a high-quality film-making offer even under pandemic conditions, even if this cannot, of course, replace the actual cinema experience, ”says Barbara Winkler, project manager of SchulKinoWoche Bayern.

Leopold Grün, Managing Director VISION KINO adds: “For us, the cinema is and will remain the place that we want to focus on again and again from our perspective of cultural education. That is why we worked together with the project team to ensure that school classes in Bavaria can visit the cinemas. Unfortunately, however, the sustained increase in the number of infections has thwarted our plans. We didn’t want to cancel the SchulKinoWoche Bayern completely again. Precisely for this case, we worked early on a digital alternative format that is now being used. A selection of the film program and the accompanying digital offers for school classes can now be used despite the cinemas being closed. “

As usual, the online film offer of SchulKinoWoche Bayern is tailored to grade levels, subjects and curriculum-relevant content and comprises 40 artistically and educationally valuable films. The cinema seminars are also being relocated to digital space. Filmmakers and experts will talk about film production and the background on the screen. The cinema seminars are moderated by experienced media educators, who also encourage an exchange about the film’s content. The cinema should also play a central role in the alternative program: Schoolchildren should deal with the cultural location and the cinema as a media institution. Numerous offers for teaching in primary and secondary schools are available, with which children and young people can get to know their cinema on site, careers in film or the film industry’s exploitation chain, or they can deal with their own viewing habits.

Accompanying materials are available for all of the films in the program and can also be accessed online.
