How does Schufa get my data?
The Schufa is a credit reporting agency, the largest in Germany. Schufa collects and stores data that around 10,000 companies provide it with. These companies are divided into A contractual partners (e.g. banks and savings banks) and B contractual partners (e.g. trading companies). B contractual partners only have to report non-contractual behavior, A contractual partners, on the other hand, are obliged to report without restriction. The Schufa calculates one from the available data Score, a point value that is intended to provide information about the probability that someone will meet their payment obligations.
As became known in 2021, not only negative data is passed on to the Schufa. research by NDR and Southgerman newspaper discovered that Schufa had been collecting positive data from mobile phone data for years. Data and consumer protection advocates criticize the fact that information is collected without cause, which – unlike negative data – does not contain any negative payment experiences or other non-contractual behavior.
