Francis Schubert is an unsurpassed songwriter – his melodies shine in incredible beauty, and he knows how to capture the drama of a person’s life in a two-page miniature. In the cycle “Winter Journey”, our lyrical hero is talking with his beloved in his thoughts, tears are glowing like roses, delusions are fluttering, the dream of spring is dying, three suns are shining in the vaults of the sky, and the road is endless.
Franz Schubert’s song cycle “Winterreise” is one of the most famous song sequences of the Romantic era. We often hear parts of the cycle, but much less often – the whole cycle as a whole. The reading by Kārļas Zariņš/Inta Villeruša and Krišjānis Norveļ/Alda Liepiņš is legendary in Latvia, and now we also have the powerful and varied, at the same time highly intelligent version, which after 2022, was written by the soloist of the Latvian National Opera, Rihards Miller, and the concertmaster of the soloists of the Latvian National Opera, Ārika Miller. for concerts in Riga, Sigulda and Rēzekne, was deservedly nominated for the Great Music Award 2022 in the category “For excellent interpretation”.
