Hellenthal. After a two-year Corona break, the JUDIT.H working group invites you to the Evangelical Church on Sunday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m. to see the documentary film »Down with the Germans«.
A French prisoner wrote »A bas les Boches« (Down with the Germans) on the wall of the Gestapo prison in the EL-DE building in Cologne. Decades later, the inscriptions were uncovered and the former Gestapo cellar was inaugurated as a memorial in 1979.
Dietrich Schubert took this as the starting point for a feature film. Fritz, the main character, is a survivor of the Edelweiß pirates from Ehrenfeld, who were being pursued by the Gestapo. He becomes aware of the opening of the memorial through a newspaper notice and travels from Rheydt to Cologne to see the cellar again where he was tortured. In the group of visitors he discovers an old man whom he recognizes: the Gestapo’s “cellar master”, who beat him half to death during interrogations. Trying to track down this man and get back at him for what can’t be gotten back at – this quest sets the rhythm of the black-and-white film. After the screening there is an opportunity to exchange ideas with Dietrich Schubert. Admission is free, but donations to help Ukraine are welcome.
